Estimate for torsion spring replacement on an 8×8 steel garage door

And single wide doors using torsion springs

This is an example of the work we do all the time. This is a estimate for the replacement of one torsion spring, in this case on an eight by eight steel garage door. Torsion spring replacement on an 8×8 steel garage door is a common service we provide. It has no insulation and no windows. The original torsion spring has broken after about ten years of faithful service. Today, this door is getting resprung!

Are the cables broken? No.

Both torsion cables are loose and or hanging. Sometimes, this is the first thing you notice. This is normal because the spring is broken. The cables are not broken and will be reused unless we notice some actual damage to them.

Time to hop up on the ladder

Disassemble the system and oil the bearings. Remove the old spring and install the new spring. Reassemble the spring system and tighten everything down. Set the drums and cables. Add the appropriate amount of tension to the spring. Doors like this always have just one spring.

All done!

The new spring installed and wound up. This time I was able to install a larger spring than the original. This door works great now and the new spring will last longer than the original did.

How much does this cost?

The total price for this repair was $300, which includes a three year parts and labor warranty. This repair would cost the same if the door was 8×7 or 9×7 or 9×8. The door could be uninsulated like this one or it might have basic insulation. Steelback doors not included but would not cost much more.
